Method for measuring the small size of Rubber O-rings

Method for measuring the small size of Rubber O-rings

Method for measuring the small  size of  Rubber  O-rings as following:

1. Place the O-ring horizontally;

2. Measure the first outer diameter;

3. Measure the second outer diameter and take the average value;

4. Measure the first thickness;

5. Measure the thickness for the second time and take the average value.

An O-ring is an elastic rubber ring that serves as a seal and can be produced by molding or injection molding.

1、 Method for measuring the size of O-ring specifications

1. Horizontal O-ring

Place the O-ring flat and maintain a natural state without deformation to ensure accurate measurement.

2. Measure the first outer diameter

Measure the outer diameter of the O-rings  with a vernier caliper. Be careful to lightly touch the O-rings and not deform it.

Then record the measured data.

3. Measure the second outer diameter and take the average value

Rotate the vernier caliper 90 °, repeat the previous step, and continue with the second measurement data. Take the average of two data sets.

4. Measure the first thickness

Next, use a vernier caliper to measure the thickness of the O-ring.

5. Measure the second thickness and take the average value

Change the angle and measure the thickness of the O-rings again, then calculate the average of the two sets of data to complete the measurement.

What is an O-ring?

As the name suggests, an O-ring is a circular ring made of elastic rubber, commonly known as an O-rings seal, which mainly serves as a seal.

① Working principle

Place the O-ring into a groove of appropriate size. Due to its elastic deformation characteristics, each surface is compressed into an elliptical shape,

sealing every gap between it and the bottom of the groove, thereby playing a sealing role.

② Production form

Compression Molding

Adding raw materials into the mold manually is time-consuming and labor-intensive, and is only suitable for producing small batches and large sizes of O-rings.
